This is probably one of the only truly Japanese run restaurants in Orange County. I like this place since it follows the same menus I'm used to from Gardena or west Los Angeles and Monterey park. Not the large delicious portions like before but the comfort of being real Japanese food is nice. I'm not a sushi roll fan though. This is basically a California fad creation. Sashimi with sushi rice anytime for me.

Whyyyyy?!!!! I loved this place! Was going here for over 20 years. Wish it was at least taken over by a new owner. Thanks Kinokawa staff and Mr. Lee for all those years of great food & service.

Just had some of the best sushi ever. The blue fin was amazing, the black mamba roll was divine. Fresh, old school Japanese food. Do it!

The service is extremely slow . The sushi used to be fresh . Now the Rainbow Roll tastes like rubber fish. Many MAGA supporters go to this sushi restaurant. A MAGA supporter who sat down next to me told me I looked like a Biden supporter because I told him I had taken out a loan to pay for my education in the 1990s. For no reason, he began ranting at me, telling me not to speak to him even though he was doing most of the talking. The staff was so slow that I had to wait ten minutes for my bill, which was 34.00 for a stake rainbow roll, passable yellowtail sushi and a Sake. I I will never return to Kinokawya because the sushi is not fresh and some of the customers are frightening.

I am sad that the restaurant has closed. I had a lot of good times there and meant some wonderful people there. Mr Lee the owner was a pleasant person but he should have made Robert the head Sushi Chef not him. Robert knew the regulars and what they wanted to have. No menu required. I was a frequent customer 3 times a week for years. But life changes and family life changes and was only going in occasionally for the last 3 years. You could tell business had change. Wish Mr Lee the best.

i like this place, that is why we keep on coming back if we have a craving for Japanese food. but this few days, the service were going downhill. you have to wait for so long for your order. it is so understaff. it is only few server working even on weekend. aside from serving, bushing, the server will also be a cashier. and i figure out that about 3 server are working on a busy weekend. they need to hire more people to do the task.aside from that i have no more complain. food is great

A few years later, I visited the restaurant again, and while it's a decent experience, I was equally underwhelmed by the average good.
I ordered the chirashi again, and eating it only made me miss a much better chirashi I had somewhere else. It filled my empty stomach, but it left a gaping hole in my soul.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Jul 12, 2016Previous reviewWhile it's not the best sushi I've had, it's probably the best you could find without driving to Gardena or Torrance.
Despite what the other reviewers said, the service is actually quite attentive and fast. I was served miso soup in less than two minutes, and my chirashi came about five minutes later.
The chirashi was good but not great, but what I like about the chirashi is the seasoning that's mixed in with the rice.
I am definitely going back. - Louie L.Paramount, CA2611Apr 20, 2023
No other Sushi place compares to the quality here. Service is fast and friendly and perfect for business meetings.

I love this restaurant. I have childhood memories here. The food is still delicious!
Even though the exterior is plain and not eye catching, the local customers appreciate this place. The interior is typical Japanese restaurant decor, and its cozy and I love it.
This establishment shows that regardless of changes in the community, or however, quality food and atmosphere still reins the most important. Not to mention the value for your money with the portions.
I highly recommend this place, and when you go, you may feel good about it too.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
